Michigan, also recognized as the Great Lakes state, is the only state with two peninsulas and is also the eighth most populous state in the U.S. Being touched by four of the 5 Great Lakes in addition to Lake Saint Clair, Michigan has the longest freshwater coastline on the planet. Additionally, in total, the state houses 64,980 ponds and lakes. Therefore shockingly, the next fact is that the state is a leader in the United States for recreational boating.

The state of Michigan is a wonderful tourist location. In addition to boating, visitors come from all over for hunting and to be part of the nature the state has to offer. Fifty percent of the state is relatively remote forest land. Tourists are attracted to this along with the miles upon miles of beautiful beaches and some well-known yearly occasions.

As far as occasions go, the National Cherry Festival held in Traverse City, Michigan each July, brings in more than 500,000 people yearly. There is also the Tulip Time Festival, held in Holland, Michigan in May that has been in existence since 1929.

In addition to the outside experiences you can have in the state, some of the larger cities feature a variety of museums and there are a wide assortment of casinos. There are also several historical markers, which are typically signs celebrating an event or individual from history associated with the particular place.

The state offers beautiful summers.
